Get the Most From Your Porcelain Onlays

Our onlays are created using CEREC (CAD/CAM) technology which makes it possible for you to get the procedure done in a single appointment. Our custom-created fillings are made of gold, tooth-colored porcelain, or composite material. We will cement the onlays in your tooth while giving priority to your comfort.

Maintain you Porcelain Onlays

Dental restorations are not permanent solutions. The same goes for porcelain onlays. You will have to get them replaced at one point in time. The best you can do is extending their lifespan. At King West Dentistry we want you to get the most from your onlays. At the end of the procedure, our skilled dentist will take the time to educate you on what to do during and after recovery to maintain an attractive, long-lasting smile. We recommend you maintain good oral hygiene, stop smoking and get regular dental checkups.

Why would someone need an onlay restoration?

There are many reasons why you may be a candidate for onlay restoration. Most patients who come to our clinic have:

  • Tooth decay
  • Large fillings
  • Fractured fillings
  • Broken or cracked teeth
  • Need cosmetic enhancement
  • Need to incorporate chewing cusps in tooth restoration

What is getting an onlay like?

At King West Dentistry we value your time and comfort. As a result, with most of our patients, we are able to install onlay in a single appointment thanks to the CEREC technology. You will need two appointments if the onlays have to be created in an offsite dental laboratory.

On the follow-up appointment, our skilled dentists will cement the inlays on the affected teeth. Your relief is our number one goal. To guarantee this, we make several adjustments to ensure you can bite normally and that the inlays don't cause any discomfort in the mouth.

The typical process starts with the cleaning of your teeth followed by the taking of several impressions of your teeth. The impressions are needed in the fabrication of a custom onlay and temporary restoration.

Porcelain Onlays Procedure

Your tooth will be numbed at the start of the procedure to allow for the easy removal of decay and leftover materials from previous fillings. Our skilled dentist will then prepare the tooth and shape it to accommodate the porcelain onlay. A temporary restoration will have to be inserted if CEREC technology is not available. This will remain in until the second appointment when the custom onlay is cemented in.

The follow-up appointment involves the cementing of porcelain onlay on the affected tooth. To guarantee a comfortable fit, several adjustments will be made. Our mission is to install onlays that are not only comfortable in your mouth but those that allow you to chew normally.
