Post Operative Instructions - Composite Filling
After a composite filling, we recommend that you adhere to some basic homecare instructions in order to reduce pain and swelling. After the procedure you should:
- Avoid taking hot beverages
- Refrain from chewing until the numbness goes away
To further improve your recovery time we recommend you do the following. This is irrespective of whether you received composite fillings, porcelain fillings, or white fillings.
Diet
Your tongue and lips may feel numb for several hours if anesthetic was used during the procedure. You should avoid chewing and taking hot beverages during this time. This is because it is easy to burn or bite your lips or tongue when numb.
Pain
It is common to experience some discomfort after the procedure. We will prescribe medication for the pain. Contact our office if the discomfort persists for more than a few days.
Nausea
Avoid food and beverages for at least an hour if you experience nausea after the composite filings appointment. To safeguard the condition of the composite fillings we recommend you practice proper oral hygiene. Brush carefully and rinse gently on the day of the appointment.
