Insurance

Dental insurance works much like medical insurance. In exchange for a monthly premium, your plan covers certain dental services, usually including regular checkups, cleanings and X-rays. Some plans offer broader coverage than others, and some require you to pay a larger share of the cost at your visit. Some plans also cover certain types of oral surgery, dental implants or orthodontic treatment.

We accept most dental insurance plans, offer direct billing and welcome patients covered by the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP).

For insured patients, we prepare and submit your claim forms on your behalf, and we’re happy to help you understand and make the most of your benefits.

Please keep in mind that dental insurance is an agreement between you and your insurance provider. Some plans have annual limits that are lower than the cost of certain treatments, and some exclude procedures that may be necessary or recommended. Each patient is responsible for all charges incurred during their care. If you have a question about your dental insurance, just ask our team.

Payment Options

King West Dentistry accepts debit, cheques and all major credit cards, including Visa, Mastercard and American Express.

We also offer payment plans for larger treatments, including cosmetic dentistry, dental implants, orthodontics and Invisalign.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to questions our patients often ask. If your question isn’t listed, please contact our team.

Are regular dental check-ups necessary?

Yes. Regular checkups help us catch problems early, before they become harder to treat. Most people need a checkup every six months, but your dentist may suggest a different schedule based on the health of your teeth and gums.

Do you need x-rays at every dental appointment?

Not usually. How often you need X-rays depends on your oral health. They help us find problems the eye can’t see, such as decay between teeth. Our clinic uses digital X-rays, which use less radiation than traditional film.

Why are my teeth so sensitive?

Sensitivity usually means dentin, the layer under your enamel, is exposed. This can happen when enamel wears down from cavities or grinding, or when gums recede and expose the root. Your dentist can find the cause and recommend treatment.

How can I tell if I'm brushing and flossing properly?

Brush twice a day for two minutes with a soft-bristled brush, focusing on the gum line. Floss once a day, curving the floss around each tooth. Replace your toothbrush every three months. At your checkup, we can show you any spots you’re missing.

What if I am already in the early stages of gum disease?

Early gum disease (gingivitis) causes red, swollen gums that bleed easily, and it can usually be reversed. A professional cleaning plus daily brushing and flossing is the best treatment. For advanced cases, we may refer you to a periodontist, a gum disease specialist.

I have been prescribed a treatment I know nothing about, what should I do?

Ask us. We’re happy to explain what the treatment involves, how much it costs, how long it takes and what alternatives you have. The final decision is always yours, and you’re welcome to get a second opinion.
